Personal Effects
The alchemy of everyday objects, subjected to intense heat, is recorded in these sculptures.
A knot of hair, sweepings from the floor, a piece of fruit--each becomes transformed in a kiln, sandwiched between layers of fused glass. The result resembles a microscope slide at the cellular level, or a kind of miniature momento mori.
And by reducing objects to their two-dimensional essence, "Fusions" argues for itself as a kind of elemental photography.
